Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sajid Javid visited Warrington today to hear directly from businesses in the town ahead of the General Election on Thursday 12th December.
In a round table discussion at the Warrington Chamber of Commerce hosted by Warrington South Parliamentary Candidate Andy Carter, Mr Javid answered questions on the changing face of the High Street, opportunities for businesses to invest in training and development, the success of Warrington businesses exporting to Commonwealth Countries and the impact of Brexit on business in Warrington.
Relating directly to his own experience of his parents’ family business, Mr Javid said he recognised the challenges of running a business and the need for certainty when making business decision. He urged voters locally to support Andy Carter, who has pledged to back Boris Johnson’s Brexit deal to leave the EU on 31st January 2020.
Mr Javid said “Parliament has been in paralysis and we need a local champion for Warrington in Westminster, Andy’s background in running his own successful business and record of getting things done means he’s best placed to represent Warrington South.”
"A vote for anyone other than the Conservatives at this election is a vote for Jeremey Corbyn. Imagine waking up to the nightmare on Friday, December 13 of Jeremy Corbyn & John McDonnell in Downing Street.”
On public services, the Chancellor also praised Andy’s campaign to secure funding for a new hospital; “If we can get Andy elected into Westminster, he can work with local NHS commissioners and Government to finalise a business case for hospital funding here in Warrington. With the Conservatives in Government we’ll keep the economy strong so we can have more investment into the Health Service.”
Andy Carter also welcomed comments from the Chancellor on call for a cross party consensus on Social Care “As with the NHS, we need a long term funding settlement, the Government have pledged record amount of cash and we need to reach agreement on a final system where nobody will have to sell their home to pay for their own care.”
Warrington South is a key swing seat, currently held by Labour with a majority of 2,400. A swing of around 2% will allow the Conservatives to secure the seat and form a stable, majority Government at the General Election on December 12th.
