Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Warrington South Andy Carter has raised the issues most discussed on the doorstep in Warrington South with the Prime Minister Boris Johnson in a meeting earlier this week.
Having conducted door to door surveys for the last 6 months with around 9,000 residents in Penketh, Great Sankey, Chapelford, Bewsey, Latchford, Stockton Heath, Lymm, Thelwall, Appleton, Grappenhall and Appleton Thorn the Prospective MP says he has a clear picture of the issues that people in Warrington South really want to see action on.
“I don’t think anyone will be surprised that Brexit was the number one topic raised” says Andy. “The overwhelming message from residents who voted Leave or Remain was that we should respect the result of the 2016 referendum and get Brexit sorted. There’s been tremendous frustration that this one issue has dominated the agenda with Parliament unable to decide a way forward.”
Looking at issues which are more specific to Warrington South, Andy says the Local Plan has dominated conversations and raised very real fears over the Green Belt. In my conversation with the Prime Minister I acknowledged the need for new, affordable homes but here in Warrington these shouldn’t these shouldn’t be at the expense of a Green Belt when other brownfield options exist”.
“I will campaign for financial support to be given to allow a speedy regeneration of Fiddlers Ferry and investment into the Town Centre so that we can bring former industrial areas back into use. I’m also calling on the Council to make every effort to confirm the Town’s brownfield register is up to date.”
The survey also demonstrated support for investment at Warrington Hospital with parking raised as a concern along with further funding to improve the facilities at schools in Warrington. Andy says Policing and the fear of crime is also a priority:
“Our public services are getting the support they need, The PM’s pledge to fund an additional 20,000 Police Officers is welcome, I want to ensure sufficient is allocated to Cheshire Constabulary. We also need to maintain a strong economy, so I’ll be campaigning to bring more, better paid jobs to the area.”
The Conservatives will publish their manifesto in the coming weeks and Andy has already published his six-point plan for Warrington South which also includes his support for better facilities in schools across Warrington South.
