The government has set out a £330bn package of loans and guarantees to support the economy, and to give families and business across Warrington the support they need. The Chancellor has also assured he would “do whatever it takes” and go further if this current package is not enough.
Andy Carter, the MP for Warrington South said: “We need to get behind business during this difficult and uncertain time. I am speaking to those large and small across the constituency to ensure they have the latest guidance on how we can help, and I want to reassure constituents that I will be passing on the latest information as I get it.
He added: “The Government is doing everything it can to keep this country, and our people, healthy and financially secure. No one will be penalised for doing the right thing.
“We have made available an initial £330 billion of guarantees so any businesses who needs access to cash to pay their rent, the salaries of employees, pay suppliers or purchase stock will be able to access a government-backed loan. We are also providing £500 million more funding so local authorities such as Warrington Borough Council to support economically vulnerable people such as the self-employed.
“We have also made Statutory Sick Pay available earlier and are ensuring that people who are self-isolating are also able to receive it. We will also make it easier for people to obtain a sick note and ensure there is support in place for people who do not receive Statutory Sick Pay.”
As part of the measures, the Government has advised that people should work from work home where they possibly can, avoid pubs, clubs, theatres and other social venues including gathering with friends and families out their own home.
That means that if possible, you should not go out even to buy food or essentials, other than for exercise, and in that case at a safe distance from others. If necessary, you should ask for help from others for your daily necessities. And if that is not possible, then you should do what you can to limit your social contact when you leave the house to get supplies.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has also said that schools in the UK will close tomorrow prevent the further spread of coronavirus.
Andy Carter said: “Healthwise, it’s so important that people stop non-essential contact with others and all unnecessary travel. This advice is particularly important for people over 70, for pregnant women and for those with some health conditions.
“I know these are difficult times and everyone is worried, but I would like to reassure people here in Warrington South that the Government is doing everything it can to keep everyone healthy and financially secure. “
