If you arrive by train into Warrington Bank Quay at night you can’t miss the large industrial site just before you pull into the station at lower Walton. The plant belongs to Solvay Group and has been on the same site since 1948, now part of a global business and the UKs only producer of hydrogen peroxide which is used for a variety of processes including hair dyes and for cleaning products.
Really interesting visit earlier to learn more about the businesses plans for the future, how they intend to decarbonise their operations by using hydrogen to replace natural gas through the HyNet North West scheme.
Good to also hear about Solvay’s commitment to apprenticeships and their involvement with local High Schools and Priestley College, encouraging students to understand the practical applications of science and chemistry.
