Andy Carter MP and the Conservative Opposition group on Warrington Borough Council have welcomed news which they believe will make it “extremely unlikely” that the controversial Six:56 distribution site near Exit 20 on the M56 at Grappenhall will go ahead.
The Planning Inspectorate has confirmed that the MD6 employment area proposal, which includes the Six:56 scheme, should be deleted from Warrington’s draft Local Plan.
Parish Councils in the south of Warrington have worked together to challenge many aspects of the draft Local Plan including the MD6 Employment Area proposals. The South Warrington Parishes Group was formally represented at the Examination in Public and at the July Additional Hearing. Andy Carter also spoke at the Examination in Public last September.
Warrington South MP Andy Carter said:
"I’m really encouraged to read confirmation from the Planning Inspectors, who are reviewing Labour’s Local Plan for Warrington, that they agree the land in Grappenhall and Appleton Thorn which is earmarked for development should not be released from the Green Belt for building.
"Conservative Borough Councillors, Six Parish Councils in the south of Warrington and I have all worked together to challenge many aspects of the draft Local Plan. Despite overwhelming objections from local residents, Labour Councillors gave their approval last year.
"An application for a huge logistics hub on this land, called Six:56, is currently the subject of another separate planning inquiry following my request to the Secretary of State for review. This decision makes it very hard to justify special circumstances for approval of the Six:56 application when the inquiry resumes in October."
