Around 10,000 people are employed directly or through the supply chains supporting nuclear energy in Warrington and it’s a sector that’s set to grow even further.
So getting the right skills for the next generation is really critical and apprenticeships are helping to train our future workforce.
Yesterday it was a real pleasure to talk to so many young people from Warrington who’d travelled to Parliament to be part of the nuclear apprenticeship showcase - to hear their ideas about how to encourage more young people into the sector and to see their enthusiasm.
Great to again speak to Luke from Grappenhall who I met 12 months ago working for Cavendish for Sellafield, who’s now on to level 5, working in mechanical design, using various software to produce 2D & 3D drawings/models, solve complex problems and design their implementation onto site.
I’m holding an apprenticeship fair in Warrington next month when many of these employers will be in the town centre and available to talk to young people and their parents about a career in energy.
