The North West is home to 25% of England’s dairy herds with more than 480,000 cows - that’s 1500 dairy farms creating local jobs and turning over £715m annually.
And these are the lovely cows on the Cheshire farm just round the corner from where I live that produce the milk for my tea, bottled in the village dairy and delivered to doorsteps across Warrington around 5am by the milkman.
All day today #Farm24 has been celebrating the best of British agriculture, where many farmers across the UK are sharing as much of their working day on social media. It’s a great time to say thanks for the work they do, day in day out to keep us all fed!
I’m also really keen to see schools take the opportunity to work with NFU Online to introduce farming to children at a young age, including a visit to a local farm so that everyone understands where and how our food is produced.
Thanks to the NFU in Cheshire for the work they do to promote farming and to our great milk producers like GP Broadsmiths in Lymm who turn up with the milk come rain or shine.
