I’m really pleased to see Warrington based recycling business Novellis awarded more than £4.5 million to take part in a Government backed trail to switch from natural gas to hydrogen at one of their furnaces in Latchford.
I’ve been working with plant manager Alan for some time, supporting their bids into the department for energy security as part of the HyNet project which will also capture carbon emissions from major manufacturing sites in the north west and store them in depleted gas fields in the Irish Sea.
This projects secures green jobs in Warrington at the plant which is capable of handling 195,000 tonnes of aluminium per year - it is one of the continent's largest aluminium can recycling plants, and is Europe's biggest closed-loop operation for producing aluminium to be turned into cars at Jaguar Land Rover.
