On a visit to Warrington and Vale Royal College, Warrington South MP Andy Carter was given a tour of the brand new Health & Social Care Academy. The state-of-the-art facility houses an Independent Living Flat, a Simulation Hospital Ward and life-like early years settings; designed to train and develop the health and social care workforce.
The local MP was shown around the facilities by Amy Yorke, the Health & Social Care Academy Business Centre Manager, who was able to tell him more about the work of the Academy. Andy Carter also met with current first year students Caitlin and Emma, who were delighted to share their experiences with him and demonstrate how to use some of the industry-standard equipment in the hospital ward.
Following his visit the MP commented: “I really enjoyed my tour of the new Health and Social Care Academy at Warrington & Vale Royal College. This is a fantastic life-like learning environment for students wanting to pursue a career in health and social care, funded with £1million from the Government as part of Warrington’s £25million Town Deal.
"The Academy is also helping to address the shortage of staff in this important area and ensure we have the right skills for future generations. It was great chatting with students like Caitlin from Great Sankey and Emma from Latchford, and to see how they’ve been learning to take blood samples using the high-tech equipment at the Academy."
Amy Yorke, Health & Social Care Academy Business Centre Manager, said: “It was a pleasure to host Andy during his visit to the college. It was an excellent opportunity to show off the facility and the hard work that we are doing. We are continually developing links with employers and local partners that are helping us to establish the reputation of the college. We have been able to begin delivery of clinical skills and other training offers for local businesses and employers, and it was great to be able to share this with Andy.”
