Warrington South MP Andy Carter has praised a local Lymm-based education technology business on their success in having secured a UK Smart Grant from Innovate UK.
Lymm-based Plytime Learning, the recipient of the prestigious Government grant, is a research-backed online learning platform which enables students to experience personalised learning with tailored one-to-one support so they can progress through the curriculum at their own level.
Andy Carter MP recently met with Ian McCartney, who founded Plytime Learning along with his wife Lisa, to learn more about their plans to use the grant to further develop their AI-tutor capability which they believe will dramatically improve student outcomes at a much lower cost, with the potential to fundamentally change the way students learn.
The project begins this month and is set to initially focus on Primary Maths. Plytime Learning are now keen to partner with schools to be at the cutting edge of improving primary maths outcomes.
Andy Carter MP said:
I was very pleased to meet with Ian to learn about the innovative work that Plytime Learning undertakes and their aim to develop the most effective learning platform. It’s a fantastic achievement to be awarded a UK Smart Grant and I’m excited to see how it will go towards support their development of an AI-tutor.
As a parent myself, education has always been at the forefront of my priorities as an MP, and our ability to use technology to better outcomes for students and reduce the burdens on teachers is something this Government is very proud to get behind.
It’s great to see small businesses in Warrington South leading the way by innovating and pushing boundaries to make a positive impact on people’s lives, and I’ll be happy to help in any way I can.

It was a pleasure meeting Andy to discuss the difference Plytime Learning is making to students across the county and huge impact our recent Innovate UK award can have in the future. It was refreshing to hear Andy’s passion for education and we truly appreciate all his support going forwards.
