Really enjoyed meeting the team at the new Bewsey Community Shop earlier, part of a wider network of social supermarkets, this one based in Bewsey Park Pavillion and supported by long-standing partner Ocado and other retailers.
The Community Shop sells products which are perfectly good to eat or use that have been donated by major retailers, brands and manufacturers after being deemed ‘surplus’ for reasons such as incorrect labelling or seasonal packaging, meaning they may otherwise have gone to waste.
The revenue raised in the store will be re-invested back into the local area through the store’s Community Hub and the community kitchen - which had spaghetti bolognaise on the menu!
This is a really great scheme offering a hand up rather than a hand out with advice in the hub to help with money worries, employment opportunities and support for families.
