Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport Lucy Frazer MP and Andy Carter MP paid a visit to Cheshire's Mix56 - which covers news across Warrington and Knutsford based in the heart of Lymm Village.
The Conservative cabinet member praised the work being done at the local radio station, and took the time to chat to some of the station's youngest contributors.
During the visit, the stars of the show were Mix56's 'live at five' children's presenters, ranging in age from eight up to 14.
Speaking in a segment on Cheshire's Mix56's afternoon show, Ms Frazer - who was joined by local MP Andy Carter - said: "The Prime Minister identified five sectors of growth, and this is one of them.
It's fantastic to be in a department that is at the forefront of the economy."
The Culture Secretary explained that she had visited Warrington Wolves and saw the work that they do across the town - as well as highlighting the vital work that Mix56 does for the community, stating how important local news is.
When questioned by the Warrington Guardian about the controversial restructuring of the BBC that some say is threatening local news, Ms Frazer said: "Local radio and local newspapers have an essential part to play in community life, and Ofcom have a role in ensuring the BBC has an important role."
A final question was asked regarding her impressions of Warrington.
The Secretary of State said: "Well I've seen representation from a wonderful MP, and I've also seen the work of Warrington Wolves - not just in terms of rugby, but the community as well.
"The work they're doing for those playing sport with a disability, and also their work in mental health and promoting women's rugby, too.
"I've seen that people are working together to improve the lives of local people."
