This week in Parliament, Warrington South MP Andy Carter had the pleasure of meeting with pupils and staff from Oughtrington Primary School on their visit to the Houses of Parliament. The children were treated to a tour of the Palace of Westminster by Parliament’s Education Centre, as well as having the opportunity to go into the House of Commons chamber to watch a debate taking place.
Afterwards, the pupils held a question and answer session with their local Member of Parliament, who was on hand to tell them about his first-hand experience in the role, the legislative process, the history of Parliament and meeting His Majesty King Charles recently.
Following the visit, Andy Carter MP remarked: “It was lovely to meet the pupils from Oughtrington Primary in the Education Centre on their visit to Parliament. I’m very glad everyone had a great day touring the House of Commons and the House of Lords, as well as going into the public viewing gallery to watch proceedings taking place at the Despatch Box.
“I also thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to answer the children’s questions about the history of Parliament, meeting the King and how MP’s make the laws that affect all our lives. Having such a fantastic personal introduction to politics at a young age is a great inspirational opportunity and I’ve no doubt we’ll see some of the pupils who visited going on to serve their local community in public office when they grow up.”
