Warrington South MP Andy Carter has used Prime Minister’s Questions to raise concerns over development on Green Belt land, following the Planning Inspectorate’s decision to permit the development of a logistics hub near Appleton Thorn.
The Six:56 Warrington development was approved by Councillors at Warrington Borough Council earlier this year, despite strong local opposition. Earlier this week it was confirmed that there will not be a public inquiry.
Speaking in the Chamber of the House of Commons during PMQs, Andy Carter MP said: “The Plans are contrary to National Policy, entirely in the Green Belt and have been approved despite more than a thousand letters of objection.
“Does the Prime Minister agree with me that listening to local communities and protecting our precious Green Belt should be at the heart of planning policy and will he meet with me to look at how local residents can have their voices heard?”
Responding, the Prime Minister praised the MP for raising local matters in Parliament: “The House will have heard him loud and clear, the Department for Levelling Up will have heard him loud and clear, I will make sure he gets the relevant meeting.”
Andy Carter has consistently campaigned against Green Belt development, having secured a reduction in housing numbers in the latest Local Plan, as well as the inclusion of Fiddlers Ferry, a brownfield site and former coal fired power station.
