For the bank holiday on Monday 8th May, around six million people across the UK took part in volunteering activities to mark the Big Help Out. Over 200 volunteers in Warrington turned out to join the Royal Crown Litter Pick, dividing into groups to cover locations all across the town.
Warrington South MP Andy Carter joined Warrington's litter picking champion, Dr Tony Dixon and his Team 9 at Sankey Valley park, with the group collecting 25 bags along their clean up route covering Waterways, Cromwell Avenue, Lovely Lane and surrounding streets.
Andy Carter MP said: “The Big Help Out is a tribute to the King’s public service and a celebration of giving back to the community by volunteering. Despite the rain, hundreds of people from every part of Warrington have come together to be part of the town’s biggest ever litter pick, including groups such as the Scouts, Lions and Rotary, all organised by Warrington Litter Network and in particular the driving effort of Tony Dixon.
“So many important events and services are co-ordinated by an army of volunteers in our local communities so it’s also important we say thank you to these teams and recognise the contribution made to life in our local areas.”
