At a special reception hosted in 10 Downing Street to celebrate skills and apprenticeships champions from across the UK, Andy Carter MP was delighted to welcome Luke Turner from Grappenhall as a shining example of achieving, hard-working apprentices in Warrington’s thriving nuclear sector.
Andy and Luke first met at the annual Nuclear Week apprenticeships fair in Parliament back in 2022 when he was working for Cavendish Nuclear while undertaking his studies in Mechanical Engineering, which he has since completed.
At the reception Luke was introduced to Gillian Keegan MP, the Secretary of State for Education and a former apprentice herself, who congratulated Luke on his achievements and for his work helping promoting apprenticeship routes to others.

It was a real pleasure to welcome Luke to Downing Street to celebrate his achievements as an apprentice. When I first met Luke last year it was fantastic to see the enthusiasm he had for his apprenticeship at Cavendish Nuclear and his studies, where he was learning new skills and earning at the same time.
I’m grateful he’s kept in touch to let me know how he’s been progressing, so I thought it only right that all his hard work be rewarded at this reception in Number 10. It was great to introduce him to the Education Secretary who thanked him for his contributions as an apprentice and for helping promote apprenticeships to others.
Technical education is such a fantastic route for young people and the numbers enrolling just keep growing each year, with over half a million people undertaking an apprenticeship over the last year. Every time I meet apprentices in Warrington they tell me what a brilliant time they’re having and how it’s helping them learn valuable new skills for the future. I’d encourage any young person thinking about their next steps after school to consider it.
